California almonds are primarily grown in the Central Valley, which offers a Mediterranean climate ideal for almond trees, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The state is home to 7,600 almond farms, most of which are family-owned and operated, with nearly 70% of farms under 100 acres. Almond trees take 3–4 years to start producing and reach peak yield around 7–8 years, continuing to produce for up to 25 years with proper care. California almonds account for 100% of the U.S. commercial supply and are the state’s most valuable export crop, generating billions in revenue annually.
